SHPE National offers several types of membership. The most common type for the UMBC Chapter is Undergraduate and Graduate memberships. SHPE membership is not limited to UMBC students.
Undergraduate Membership
Cost: $10/year
Who: Undergraduate college students studying science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
Joint SHPE/SWE Membership
SHPE and SWE (Society of Women Engineers) offer reciprocal membership discounts of 25% off dues. We are proud to offer this collaboration in an effort to improve networking opportunities and expand professional development for Hispanic women engineers.
SHPE MEMBERS: The 25% discount off of SWE membership is applicable to its 1-year professional (effective rate of $75) & 1-year collegiate membership (effective rate of $15). The joint membership discount is not applicable to other discounts or pricing structures SWE may offer. To join SWE, SHPE members must use the codeFY24SHPEJOINT

Joint SHPE/ASME Membership
SHPE and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) offer reciprocal membership discounts of 50% off dues.
SHPE MEMBERS: The 50% discount off of ASME membership is applicable to all member types of the ASME MemberCORE plan (student, early career engineer, and professional), but excludes the MemberLITE plan. To join ASME, SHPE members must use the code JTSHPE, when prompted.
ASME MEMBERS: The 50% discount off of SHPE membership is applicable to Undergraduate, Graduate, Professional, and Associate SHPE member types of SHPE, but excludes Lifetime memberships. To join SHPE, ASME members must create an account in SHPEConnect and use the code ASME23-24, when prompted.
Graduate Membership
Cost: $15/year
Who: Graduate and doctorate students, obtaining MBAs, studying science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Graduate students have the option to join SHPE either with a Student Chapter, Professional Chapter or Region-At-Large chapter.
SHPE Junior
Cost: $0/year
Who: High school students interested in science, technology, engineering, or math.

Professional Membership
Cost: $65/year
Who: All STEM professionals who hold an engineer-in-training certificate or a bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. No matter if you’re looking to enhance your professional brand, develop your leadership skills, build your network, or give back to your community–a Professional membership with SHPE offers it all.
Associate Membership
Cost: $55/year
Who: Anyone who believes in our vision and wants to participate. This is usually teachers, parents, career counselors, deans, advisors. Associate members benefit from our Career Center, professional development, mentorship, and all other programming.
